~~~~~~~~~CHARM FAQ~~~~~~~~~~

Ok, Ive been getting a lot of questions aboyut my charms so Im gonna make a FAQ and everytime I post charms on here Ill just put in a link to this so its easy to find. And so it begins..

1.) Q= (prolly the most FAQQY of all FAQs) What do you use to make your charms!
A.) I use Sculpey clay, usually beige coz who cares its gonna be painted anyways. Its about $2 for a little pack and you can get it at most any craft stores.

2.) Q- What do you use to paint your charms?
A- I just use the cheap ass Acrylics you get at Michaels or Joanns. Doesnt really matter what brand, its all the same pretty much cept Ive had some trouble w/ yellow paint coz it comes out lumpy and weird but what are you gonna do.

3.) Q= How do you make your charms shiny?
A= I use this [link] Ive tried many shitty glazes and to me, this one is the best. Its glorious. No little bubbles , it doesnt crack or get yellow and its REALLLY shiny and smooth. Its very very thick though so youd have to add a little bit of water to get the right consistancy.
Also, I no longer dip , for paint or glaze it got way too annoying. I realized painting is just as good and causes less problems. Id only dip to glaze perfectly round charms with nothing sticking out of them
4.) Q= What are the little loops in them made of?
A= I take really thin galvanized wire and make little loops and stick them into the still wet clay. You bake the charms w. the loop in.

5.) Q= I want some! How do I go about getting one?
A = I can make anything youd like, just ask and it shall be yours. My charms are $4 but the peas are $2 , and I take Paypal, money orders and checks. Shipping is like $1.50 in the US and $2 if youre somewhere else.

6.) Q= Do you paint them before or after you bake them?
A= After. Acrylics are air drying paints ^___^

7.) Q = But I am also wondering how long do you bake them and at what temp??

A= All that is on the Sculpey packages, but you bake them at 275 in your kitchen oven ( coz some people think you need a special oven for it) and it how long they go in for depends on what youre baking. On the package they say 15 minutes for every 1/4th inch of clay. For my charms I just put them in for 25 minutes. But if youre not gonna paint them and are just relying on the color of the clay itself then you have to be REALLLLLLY careful about how long they go in, especially w/ white coz it WILL get kinda brown tinged. Personally I just think its so much better to paint them coz w/ my experience the clay would always get weird hairs and particles in it and you always have to wash your hands so the crap doesnt get in the clay....ok wow I totally went off on a tangent sorry lawls XD

8.) Q=how do you get your clay to come out all smooth looking? i always have finger prints on mine ):

A=Hahahahhaah my clay , no matter how careful I am,gets cat hair in it, random lumps, and weird cracks along w/ the fingerprints heheheh. Basically, the paint and glaze completely cover those things. If youre not going to paint them or glaze them....maybe wear latex gloves when handling them, and then smoothing them w/ your finger that way...I dunno.

9.)Q=^^ where do you get the chains? is it at an art supply store too?

A=The chains? I dont get chains for the charms I leave that up to whoever buys it heh. If they ask for one then Ill get it and itll be added to the overall cost but mostly I just send them off w/ a jump ring.

10.)Q= but how big are they usually?
A=Theyre about a half an inch tall, give or take a centimeter....but I can make them any size you like if you have a certain preference., Anything is possible :B

Also, do you paint them multiple times? If so, how many times and how long between coats?

Autting in drops of water is a good way to get the right consistancy

12.) Q= Where'd you get all your cool ideas from? and... Did you practice making charms or were you trained to do them?

A=Heheheh most of my charms I just come up w/ from things I like, or what people ask me to make. And Ive been playing w/ clay my whole life, and I took 2 years of ceramics in high school but I wasnt trained to make charms heh

13.)Q=i have a question - how strong are the finished charms? i'd love one or some earrings (maybe make my own) but i'm worried about how strong/delicate they are. I'm scared they'd end up getting broken

A=Id say theyre pretty strong, I think if you threw them agasint a wall theyd still be fine lol. Theyre not fragile coz theyre so compact. I put craft glue around the jump loop to keep it from coming out of the charm

14.) Q= Ah, I tried making something with Sculpey once, and after it was baked, I wasn't sure if that was the right hardness. o_o Like...how hard is it supposed to be? Really really hard? [It gets hard after you leave it out for a day or so, but if I were to stick hooks in them, I wouldn't want those fallingo ut ]

And....by "wet clay", are they normally very pliable, like Model Magic? Or are my sets just old....o_O?

A= Theyre sposed to be hard enough so that if you kinda stick your nail in it, you cant scratch it, it wont leave a dent or anything. HOWEVER....when they FIRST come out of the oven theyll be kinda squishy still, so just leave them to cool. Theyre pretty much sposed to be as hard as a pebble. And wet clay is sposed to be pliable, but if its cold its harder to shape so you have the warm it up w/ your hands heh

15.)Q=I have a quick question. I can't really tell from the picture what kind of pen you are using. Could you tell us the brand name, name of the pen, and maybe where you got it? I'd like to get the one you used. I excited to try this out this weekend and would like to get a pen that won't mess up when glazed. Thanks in advance.

A=The pen is called Fine Point System, and I use a .3 tip. I got it from Mittels, the craft store by me. The company that makes it is Itoya :3

16.)Q=okie annoying question... can i use a microwave X3?

A=No, the clay will most likely explode

17.)Q=You said that you dip the charms in paint, I can see how that would work for a solid color but what about the areas that are another color, like the face of the monkey?

A= I dont dip anymore, its too weird lol just paint them

18.)Q=I was wondering what gauge wire you use. Is it 32 gauge? Or will any gauge work just as well.

A=22 gauge, if it gets too think its hard to cut and doesnt look as nice ^______^

19.) Q=i have a question! :3 when you stick the clay in the oven, will it stick to whatever you put it on? or, what do you put it on when you put it in the oven?

A=I bake them on a metal cookie sheet and you do have to kinda ..pluck them off , but if you let them cool a little its not a problem, but if you want to be extra careful go ahead and put like....foil or something under them so they wont stick to the pan

20.) Qo you bake the charms one at a time or do you bake several at once?

A=Oh you can bake 50 at a time if you want,maybe even a hundred :3

21.) Q=I dunno how you get them to be all the same size like that, thats my biggest prob!

A=Its actually hard for me too, sometimes Ill make octos that are HUGE. Lol but what I do is I shape them out of the clay all at the same time, so I can sort of measure them w/ each other.

22.)Qoes the length of your nails interfere with making these adorable charms? Do you just keep your nails really short or do you grow them out any?

A=Ahhh I HATE long nails!! Ive never had them long they drive me insane!!! For me , long nails interfere w/ LIFE and yes I imagine they would be super annoying when making charms heh I have mine even shorter than guy nails lol

23.) Q=so how did you get the pink to not blotch orange? cuz i made somthing pink, and it blotched orange, cuz i used sculpy glaze.

A=Just use Delta Ceramcoat Paints they dont react


24.) Q=How do you take pictures of your charms? Would you explain the process to me?

A= Well the camera that I use is a Canon Powershot SD 600 . I set up the charms the way I want them but the lighting has to be perfect or else the colors come out weird or dull. I never use artificial lighting it just doesnt work for me. Im really OCD about that, Ill take pictures 10 times of the same thing to get it right heh. I put the setting on Digital Macro, and then I edit the pictures in Photoshop, just basically bringing the levels up and putting up the contrast to make the colors show the way they really look.

25.)Q=what's modge podge?

A=Modge Podge is this stuff...kinda like a glaze thats mainly used for decoupaging. It remains sticky after it dries which really sucks. Before I knew this I was using one of my charms on my phone and it ended up being coverered in blue fuzz from my jeans and the stuff came off...its not good.

Q= then why use it if it sucks so bad?

A=I dont use it anymore, only to protect the mouths

~~~~~~~RULES FOR BUYING~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ok. Lately I have been having issues w/ people telling me they want something and then the payment just never comes or they never respond to my notes or whatever.
This is really annoying. Sometimes a few people will want the same charms and Ill end up having to make a bunch more of the same thing but the person who wanted it in the first place never pays! I dont have time for this. Therefore I have set up some ground rules. Actually just one :3

1.) a.)If youre paying by paypal I need payment w/in five days or else I stop holding it and can sell it to someone else.

b.) If youre sending me payment by mail I need you to tell me, within five days, that you have physically gone to your mailbox and put the payment inside of it to be sent. ( coz I understand that mail can take awhile sometimes) If not, Im not going to hold it after that.

I know stuff happens, but I just really cant afford to be holding onto things for weeks or sometimes even months on end.
